ORIGINAL: roundmanracing

3.08 were stock with a 5 speed, the 2.73 were stock for an AOD.
Save your $200 for now in case you need to do any repairs and keep adding to your savings until you have more in hand to do future mods.

Really?
Then why are people complainin about 4.10's in a 5spd?
It's almost the same as What I originally thought from going from 2.73-3.73...

So 4.10's seems practical.
I guess...

You positive on this one? Never heard anyone say 3.08's were in a fox body

I am certain of the 3.08 were the stock 5 speed gears at least in 88. The CAFE laws made the automakers use high gears in order to get gas mileage out of the performance cars. (Corporate Average Fuel Economy in case you didn't know what CAFE is) When I bought my '88, the salesman told me they had to sell three 4 banger Escorts for each 5.0 V-8 Stang they sold in order to meet the CAFE crap, which limited the number of 5.0's they could sell. And people complain about the 4.10 gears because they make the engine run too much faster at highway speeds and it hurts their gas mileage too much. With the high gas prices today, I can see why they would too.

Yeah the 3.08s really did come stock. Thats what it says in the Chilton repair manual, and it says 3.08 on the tag on my differential.

mine came with those 2.73 airplane gears
dude..if your set of mods then get yourself a used 2.5" h-pipe and 2 used flowmasters and tail pipes for about 200.00 this will Increase gas mileage and add about 10hp
