hypertech
i was thinking about putting a hypertech chip in my 5.0 HO but i heard that chips can cause the engines to **** up does anyone here know of any problems with putting chips in or does anyone have a chip and are happy with the results?
I have a Hypertech chip on my '88 and it works just fine for me. Only problem you can run into is setting your timing too high causing detonation or pinging which can damage your engine. You will also need to run premium octane fuel as the new chip will maximize the timing for better performance all across the operating range. The instructions that came with mine said to start with the timing set to stock specs and check for pinging. If it pings, then reduce the timing by 1 degree at a time until it no longer pings under load and you're set to go. I landed up set at 10.5 degrees with mine.
I just got one for my 2003 supercrew..what a difference but it seems to work better on the obII as I rest the shift points and firmershifts with about 8 degress more timing....
in your cae I would buy a tweecer or tweecer rt..as these don't have to be reflash and can be used as you upgrede the car and are about the same price but alot of flexibilty
