Pulling motor this week and can use some tips.
Hi guys,
I am finally going to pull my motor this week and could use some good tips from those that have done this already. My car is an 85 GT convertible and I am looking for some tips on what I have to remove to take out the motor.
- It is easier to pull the motor with the tranny or w/out (5spd)?
- Does the alternator, A/c pump and power steering pump need to be removed?
- Does the drive shaft have to be removed at the rear end?
- What are the best lift points on the motor?
- Any opinions on bypassing the heater core and eliminating the A/C when reinstalling?
Your assistance is greatly appreciated !!
Thanks,
Dave

RE: Pulling motor this week and can use some tips.
dude you need a chilton book to help you most libraries have them
it is easier to pull engine/trans..atleast for me
you need to pull the driveshaft and mark it so you put it back in the same place
alt can come out with egine just unhook wires,p.s pull from engine lay it aside same for a/c
you can use the factory lifting hook on the front driverside and use a grade 8 bolt on the back PASS side intake to head bolt
as for bypassing the heater just conect the to hose come from engine

I am using a Chilton's book but find it pretty vague.
I don't have a factory lift hook on this motor but it does look like there is a place to thread in some eye bolts maybe.
Will the factory headers come out with the motor?

Thanks.
I pulled the fan, radiator and A/C condensor (?) in front of the radiator. Does the belt and everything attached to the belt need to come off to get the motor out?
