Default GT slower then LX?

I was un-aware that the GT is so much slower then the LX. What I was wondering is why is this? I have heard that the GT weights more then the LX (by around 200lbs). Is the weight the reason for the GT being so much slower?

The V8 LX Notchback(trunk)
Is almost a Half a second faster than the GT
ONLY because of weight

The ground effects and the hatchback weighs it down...

Well I must say that I am disappointed that the GT is slower I really like the look. You would think GT would actually be faster. So looks like I'll be trying to find an LX..... unless there is some wightloss pill for the GT (without effecting the looks of the GT). But sadly I do not think there is a pill....

Well, you could get rid of a couple luxuries.

Spare tire, jack, Rear Seat, AC, Powersteering, smog, lighter pullies, Fibgerglass hood/hatch, get rid of your power windows, speakers
Hrmm
That's a bit of weight ya dont need

Yeah but I do love the luxeries, so they wont be going anywhere anytime soon. With new headera, H-Pipe, flowmaster exhaust would that even bring it anywhere the speed of an LX?
