Default Micrometers

Do ya'll have any suggestions on where to get a good, affordable set of mics(micrometers). My rotating assembly should be here soon and I need to get my tools so I'm ready to go. Also, what do u think the chances are I'm gunna have to do a lot of machine work, if any, on a brand new motor? Brand new block, pistons, crank, lifters, everything. One last question, I'm new to the Orlando area and am looking for a reputable machine shop in central Florida. If anyone knows of one let me know. Thanks guys.

I got a set of mics from Ebay. It was a 4-pc Craftsman set. They were used but someone took good care of them and they work fine.

Snap-on precision measuring instruments are made by someone else I think but if you can afford them....Starrett makes decent low-end stuff as does Brown&Sharp. Mitutoyo are some of the higher-end ones......

don't forget to get a few sticks of plastic gauge for when you put it together

Starett is generally thought of as high quality and more precise.

if you have to put it together and this may be the only one it may pay to let a machine shop mic everything and you then use plastic gauge for all bearing clearances

VERY TRUE, MSC Direct has very reasonable prices on Mitutoyo Mic's and Calipers, that is all we use at work, digital Mitutoyo all the way! accurate to 5 decimal places! We measure parts with toerance's of tens and hundreds of thousands of an inch! so these are the best of the best!

i won't be having a machine shop do it. I know how to mic everything, it isn't that difficult. I want to know what I have to have machined b4 taking it to a shop instead of handing them parts and telling them to do it.
