Correlation--oil pressure and engine health?

RE: Correlation--oil pressure and engine health?
I don't think that just becuase your engine burns a little bit of oil means that it isn't healthy.
If my understanding is correct, when you have proper oil pressure your crank and piston rods litterally surf on a micro-thing layer of oil between the bearing and the part. Pressure is necessary to keep the the oil between the bearing and piston rods or bearing and crank. If you have no pressure the two metal parts will rub each other; this results in spinning a bearing and (at least I've been told) can possibly even weld to two together. This is why startup is one of the hardest times on an engine, because there is no oil pressure until the engine is running on its own.

You can have good oil pressure and still burn oil. Worn rings and valve guide can burn oil. You can also suck it up through the breather and pcv valve. I really wouldn't worry about it, especially if your car is high mileage.

I'm not trying to cause a debate or call you a dummy. It's just in order to truly understand this topic u need to understand that low oil pressure is caused by high oil clearances. The pump only creates flow. It has nothing to do with variations in pressure. Unless u have no pressure, then ur ****ed

did you read the link?....we are both right...i touched the pump side and you touched the clearance side...i was trying to tell him that you can have a worn motor and still have good oil pressure...pump wise is just doing all the work which means added strain solely on the shaft and i'm sure you know what the future holds for it.

indeed, my fault man. I think I'm add. I started to read the link, then just scrolled thru and exited it. I got distracted. well i think that's all there is to know

it is hard to explain when this is taught in class<not highschool either...
just a heads up i don't put bad info out there...if i don't know i don't know and i won't say anything.
