94 GT 302 Stock pinging!
great input gents,
I have tried higher octane gas & it does work (running reg 87 at the moment) but cha-ching. I found a decent article on the same subject a while ago & it made sense.

I think the straight ahead tweaking the timing/clean MAF/clean IAC/cleaning or replacing the o2 sensors (i'm sure thay are about 10 years old easy) should give me some sort of resolution. After all, pinging is just plain embarrassing.
thanks for all the input.

Pinging to me is very distinct. If you are at about 75% of WOT or at WOT it will sound link a bunch of wooden dominos being shaken in a bag (does to me any way). The knocking sound is quite different, as it is a lower based sound with more time space between the "knock" . Usually if you have "knock" you have run-on after you shut off the car.
