On my second temp gauge now, what the......
I had a cheap gauge in to start with, and it would not work properly, it would peg out at 250 before the t-stat ever opened up. I have replaced it with a autometer, and it is doing the same thing. I burped it, changed the sending unit, and triple checked the wiring. What else could it be? I am going to go remove the sending unit and the brass fitting that goes in the lower intake to make sure there is nothing on the threads to prevent a good ground. Someone please HELP ME!!!!!!!

Possibly the block is not grounded well.
You should have one large gauge cable on the front of the block, running directly to the bat.
There should also be another large ground strap on the back of the block, to the firewall.
The only other thing I can think of is a bad ground on the gauge itself?
I take it the gauge gradually increases, but much faster than the coolant temp is increasing.
It doesn't peg as soon as the car is started, correct.

I am using the sending unit that came with the gauge, and the gauge does rise slowly, but if I rev the engine, the gauge will rise faster. It will continue to rise until it pegs. I will check my grounds on the block to make sure, I know the engine was replaced several years ago, so maybe something is missing. Thanks for the tips guys, I am scratching my head on this one.

I am using the same sending unit wiring, new power and grounds. I dont have a ground strap on the firewall, and I cant see where the negative battery cable connects to the block, I will have to jack the front end up to be able to get under it. The sending unit wire is new and only has connectors on each end. I am about to the point to pull it all out and start over again, but that will have to wait until this weekend. I hate not knowing what is happening under the hood.

This is specifically for the O2's, and has been known to cause afr issues when not properly grounded.
Hooking the ground strap back up should help.
The neg bat cable should run to the lower side of the block, or maybe to the heads.
Mine is on the front of the head though.
