Should I send my car to the shop to get the codes off my car or should I spend the money and get one of my own and which one would be the best

 

you can just go ahead and get the code reader yourself, but no matter the codes there not the exact problems just an idea, wont tell you for sure what exactly the problem is most the time. its like 40 bux for a ford obd 1 scanner

 

My problem is that sometimes the ol stang likes to backfire and it sucks so I didn't know if it was the MAF that was causing it or if there was other symptoms. Yhanks for the info though

 

not sure bout the ones at places like autozone where i work, but i got one from summit cuz it actually reads the code number, you get like a book just on how to pull the different codes and wht they all mean and could lead too.

 

Is the CEL on or has it come on? If it is backfiring check your air injection check valves for exhaust blowing out of them or the diverter valve at the air pump if the checks are ok.
