Default help me understand this stuff with exhaust

After my car goes into the shop to get my tranny fixed when it comes out, im off with the mods!

I already am purchasing underdrive pulleys and CAI (thanks samseed!) and then after that. FULL EXHAUST BABY!

I really do like the mac exhaust, but im just gonna go with the flowmaster american thunder series. And then im gonna get a h pipe or x pipe.

H-Pipe, deeper tone
X-Pipe, Raspier tone and more increase in power on the H pipe but not by much.

Whats all this off road stuff? What will not let me pass emissions? I don't have time to take everything off when i have to go get another one so im just gonna get the needed stuff.

O/R h/x pipes have no cats... thats why they are off road pipes.

So if i do get that and put it on my car, i will have to take it off when going to get a emissions test?

Are they easy to take off and put back on? Like i always say, i suck at working with stuff, im learning.

Do the off road pipes sound better then catted ones?

Correct, you can just keep your stocker.

They are not hard... but annoying.

Thats a personal opinion, I think catted pipes sound deeper but they are definetly not as loud. But depending on what catback you use it will make up for it. For EX: I am running a LM1 catback so Im going to run a catted h pipe because if not it would be a little loud for my liking.

All "off road" stands for is the mid pipe which is H or X pipe with no cats. So yeah, you won't pass emisions if you add them on. What you can do is save your old exhaust system for when it's time to do emissions and add them back on. It's kinda of a pain though but possible or if you got the hook up pass emissions with the off road mid pipe.

Flows are nice for your car. As far as H pipe or or X pipe it's all up to you. H pipe sounds a lil better then X pipe but X pipe gives a few xtra HP mostly on top end but both pipes are great. As far as off road or with cats as well up to you. I have a hook up so I pass emissions with my off road H pipe but I have to pay xtra cash. For brand names I have a BBK totally recommend it or Bassani. I personally never messed with MAC but haven't heard good stuff about it but you can give it a try.

I also would recommend some headers. Long tubes are my favorite but if I had another choice I would be equal length headers. Good luck on your exhaust system.
