Most cars if the O2's starts sending a signal that their out of range, the CEL should come on and it would go into whats known as closed loop mode. Closed loop mode is a set of values pre-programmed by the factory, itll send a preset mixture. Should anyway, unless the ECU is bad.

95Droptop, before you go throwin more parts at it DO A COMPRESSION TEST! Thatll let you know what state the motor is in. Is your check engine light on? If so have you scanned it? Thats a good place to start. Another thing, is it blowin smoke out the tailpipes when it runs? Need a little bit mroe info.

I'm guessing that he did get a CEL, since he mentioned getting "lean" codes. I also found out through personal experience that these things run like crap with bad O2 sensors. I have the same car that he does (sn95 5.0.)

Im just thinkin of typical OBD1/2 cars operation, my probe does that but it still gets up and goes for 207k, I scanned it and the EGR is acting up. That and we've had a run of bad EGR's at my shop thatll cause that same problem. BuT I really think he shoudl start wioth teh comp test though, you never know the previous owner coulda overheated it really bad and now it has super crappy compression.

Not to question your knowledge, Pzero, but what the devil does compression have to do with lean running? Seriously.
