What Cam Fits?
Does anyone know which ford racing cams will fit in my engine (1986 5.0, stock pistons, E7TE heads shaved .010') without any piston-to-valve clearance problems? I've heard that the 86 pistons were true flattops with no valve reliefs. I believe i would like to use a B or F cam but just don't know what will fit. Thanks, SF.

Well I have an 88 5.0 from a Cougar with No valve relief flat tops, so and far everyone I have talked to said not to go bigger than a Stock cam from an H.O. Mustang . I don't know if that helps you any. I have been trying to get a definite answer on this question myself . But as far as I know the stock H.O. cam is about it. Maybe there are others though. If you find out let me know because I want an E-cam bad. But a guy from a tech site told me no way .
I hate to tell you this, but you are going through the same thing i did. You are not going to be able to get a cam with those heads and pistons. You can however get crane 1.7 roller rockers. Or you can do what i did and build a whole new motor. Which is worth it if you are planning on getting some serious horsepower out of your stang. You could also buy new pistons with valve reliefs, and then you could get a cam. I also have a friend who bought new heads and was able to fit an E-cam with the stock pistons. Which is dangerous still, but i did see it work.
This Cougar tech page said that the H.O. Mustang cam would fit but nothing bigger. I want the E-cam so i think I will wait until I have m engine rebuilt in a few months and get new pistons since it's getting bored .30 anyways. I wish it was more simple and cheaper
