Default smogpump bypass

just bought a shorter belt to bypass the smog pumpn and could feel the difference! Engine is running great w/no check engine lights(two thumbs up). But since it is not being driven does that mean i can just rip it out or could dissmantling it still cause me to run some bad codes?? oh by the way the belt is a 83.5 " its a little tighter than the 84" but about 12$ cheaper and you have to run the belt like they do on the v-6's to get this to work. 79-93 haynes repair manual.

taking it out shouldn't cause any codes since it not turning now and you don't have any codes, so I would go ahead and remove it.

I want to bypass my smog pump too. Will an 83.5" belt work for my 93?

I'm sorry I never figured this out yet, but what exactly does the smog pump do and how beneficial would it be to remove it from the drive belt?

it pumps exhaust to run back into the intake for a cleaner burn or something. good for emissions, but the belt robs power. it would be like 5 hp beneficial, maybe 10.

it pumps fresh air into the exhaust system. the presence of excess oxygen, helps the catalytic converters, turning unburned fuel into carbon dixide and water. i've heard that without the pump, your cats will burn up quickly, but i don't know if this is true.
