Everyone that has done a cam swap or HCI swap please take a look
Just for ****s and giggles I was looking to see what the chilton manual said about doing a cam swap and it says that I have to remove the A/C condensor (I can easily do this, but I'll have to swap it over to 134A when I go to fill it back up because I don't have the machine to recharge it with R-12). And it says that I have to remove the grill (I'm assuming bumper). Is it absolutely neccessary to remove the condenser and the front bumper to swap a cam in?

Can you fit another motor infront of the one you already have? No? then how is your cam going to come out without hitting anything. it is afterall, almost as long as your motor is.

That's true, but you never hear about people removing their front bumper when the do the HCI swaps, like I said I don't mind removing the condenser. I've removed a front bumper before and it's a PITA.

i would just pull the motor..your gonna have to convert the old a/c system over sooner or later.. and its november.. where i'm at right now, A/C is the least of my priorities..
screw removing the bumper.. not to mention the radiator and condensor

hey lx i replied to your pm, but to set the record straight no you do not have to remove your bumper, there is PLENTY room to put your cam in with the condensor and radiator out

Thanks bro! I sent you a PM back also. I know it's easy to pull the motor (I've done a few) but I'd rather not. I'm not set up for pulling a motor right now. So far this seems like it's going to be an easy swap.

There is no reason to discharge the freon or remove the bumper. You just lift the condenser carefully twisting it up and out of the way.
This is how I changed my cam.
