Default Very Noob-like question

Ok so i know this sounds bad, but im afraid i might have learned this the wrong way. What do you all use for radiator coolant? Ive heard so many things and i was taught that you just need some distilled water. Some help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Antifreeze. Water is not good because it will build up deposits in your engine and slow coolant flow, plus if you live where its cold it freezes at 32* and will push your freeze plugs out of the block and possibly cause alot more damage

Anti-freeze is a must for proper cooling in addition to keeping the water from freezing in a cold climate. However, it is a mixuter of anti-freeze and water (distilled is prefered) that is used unless you buy it pre-mixed. Also it depends upon what your cooling system consits of (stock or aftermarket) and how many mods you have (more HP generally means more heat) you may want to use an additive like water wetter.

you can run a mixture, it just has to be distilled. this eliminates the deposits. also with a high enough anti-freeze content it will not freeze during winter

if you add too much coolant to your mix it will get thick and turn to a gel.
50/50 mix is best with distilled water.

One thing that not alot of people know is that a coolant mixture that consists of mostly antifreeze/coolant... i.e 70% coolant/30% water... will actually make your car run hotter than a 50/50 mix.

Also, along the same lines, a 70% water/30% coolant mix will allow the car to run cooler.

Its an old trick that mechanics used to use back in the day... (PRO50SC and 2Kwik might know it )
70/30 coolant/water for winter
70/30 water/coolant for summer..... seriously

+1 because water is a better cooling agent then antifreeze. You just need antifreeze to keep it from freezing in the winter and it also helps to keep the block/heads from rusting.

Yeah, what Onyx said. If you really want to keep it cool, and you dont worry about it freezing. You can use cooling additives. I use "Purple Ice" by Royal Purple.
