Default simple oil pan question

Ok this may sound dumb but just answer, do oil pans have a gasket on the outside of it?

i have a pretty nasty oil leak after i got it retuned, i put it on the lift the other day, and it looked like they bolted the main gasket on the outside of the pan [&:]
