Default new water pump, same old problem

Well i replaced the water pump, filled it full of antifreeze, and took it for a spin. a couple minutes later the needle was up on the n of normal, and climbing before i shut her down. Whats next in my search to stop my cooling problems? The thermostat is new with the HCI swap, and it cooled fine for the first 500 miles or so, until this problem started. Anyone have any ideas? Your help is much appreciated!

stock rad? You might want to consider upgrading. A cheap route would be a copper three core.

are you sure that its really overheating?

I think my gauge is WAY off myself.. It reads above half consistantly then occasionally it slams down and back.

You need to diagnose that its actually overheating before you go throwing parts at it. if those parts are new, I seriouslt doubt its overheating.

Yeah, its the stock radiator, can a stock radiator not hang with an HCI swap? Like i said it worked fine for a month and 1/2, until like last week.

A H/C/I car with a stock cooling system can definetly overheat. What thermo do you have in there now? Start with that.

I had the same problem last week. I replaced the thermo and then the Radiator Cap and it stopped? I'd try the cap next. Is it leaking/losing any antifreeze?

The thermo is just the cheapest one they have at vato zone. I dont understand why it would start overheating now though? I figured if i was gonna have a problem with cooling it woulda started from when i did the swap

+1. maybe replace the sender unit for gauge first. that's inexpensive and probably needs replacing anyhow.
