whats so much better about the upper and lower intake off of a 96 explorer
Here's a chart comparing the dyno results of GT-40 vs. Cobra vs. Explorer intakes. Although the Cobra intake produces slightly more HP and TQ @ 2200 RPM, once you get to 2400 RPM the Explorer intake takes off up to 5400 RPM. It even starts to pull away from the GT40 at the higher end of the RPM range. It's not much, but every little bit counts...especially if you factor in Forced Induction.

And the 96 Explorer has the internal EGR passages that make it a bit easier to deal with, whish is great for my SN95.

WoW, That surprised the **** out of me samseed. i know it was better the the cobra... but i had no idea it was a little better then that FRPP gt-40 intake...i have been looking for a gt-40 cause i really like the look, and heard it was really good performance wise... But wow.. i am actually really shocked at that... explorer intake, here i come.

Look for a good deal on a used Edelbrock or Trickflow. I got my TrickFlow U/L for $50 bucks. It looked like sh*t but I spend $10 dollars in paint and painted it black w/ red lettering. So a total of $60 dollars and I have a bad a$$ manifold, that looks pretty good too.

That's why I was so happy to find the entire engine at such a great price. It leaves me with the better flowing heads as well as the intake. Sure, it's iron instead of aluminum... but I'm not too worried about the extra pounds.

And just imagine how much better they will perform after getting them ported!
