Going by your pictures, you have an M in your AX code.... meaning you have 2.73 gears in the rear end... assuming its stock. Of course, it probably is since just about everuything else in your car looks stock.
modding past 100k ISNT pointless. im pushing 276rwhp on a block with 155k right now. the 302 is a very stout power plant. You will want to do some supporting mods before you get to the nitty gritty of tearing into the motor. Start with an exhaust... full exhaust. suspension components, and rear control arms.

Thanks for all of the compliments.. I'm really enjoying this car other than the fact that the rear gears are so high. Guess I know what my next mod will be now. I heard someone say once that the car is a lot faster than how it feels, it's just how it's geared.. I thought it felt like the power was being held back. Is it a large difference if I go to a 3.73? I was also wondering about 4:10 gears, are they really close? Like, running down 75 and I going to notice a difference where the rpms are? I know I'll feel the difference in take off though..
Do I just pull my rearend and take the differental out, buy the new gears... and take it to a transmission place? I have some knowledge on rebuilding gear boxes at work, but I've seen inside of a few differentials, doesnt seem too easy without the right tools. How much would a place probably charge to swap out the gears?
And Jesus... I don't think I could ever spend enough time in a car to put 500k miles on it.. that car is a real trooper if it's still running and he thinks it's worth that much.

My mechanics wanted 2 hrs @ 75.00 an hour for the gears but I had him do the trac lock while he was in there for another 1hr@ 75.00. You should certainly feel a diff going to either 3.73 or 4.10 and there will be a significant diff of rpms at 75mph between the 2.
