that or try to use a vise and hook a battery to it and hit it your self, but if its on a vise you should be able to see how strong it will turn.

It could be just the solenoid, try and bench test the original starter with the vise and a battery.

prolly not the best idea for this guy (you can realy hurt yourself if you do it wrong) and i would hate to see anyone get hurt
ORIGINAL: settled4automatic

couldn't he just hold a screwdriver across the terminals on the starter and see if it kicks??

if the starter kicks that way, then its not the starter... right?

oh, and is there a lot of corrosion built up on your battery cables? like where the cable screws into the battery. you said you replaced the battery -- were the terminals corroded on the old one?? if so, you REALLY should clean those up. we can tell ya how to do that if there's corrosion -- go check :P

no thats doesn't mean it bad, it means that there is something wrong with the wiring somewhere, most likely the ignition switch, or the wire from solenoid to the battery ... when the key is turned can you hear the solenoid click? have some one turn the key and put your head by the solenoid

all you would do is put the starter in a vise, tighten the starter down and connect twelve volts to it and see if it spins, and see how hard it spins, but only do this if you feel comfortable about it, I would still be willing to bet that your ignition switch is the problem, btw, did you check all the fuses in the car? the simple things can be forgotten as well.
