Cobra Brake Conversion - Need Help!
I got the FRPP Cobra Brake conversion kit and have run into a small roadblock that is preventing me from finishing the job. Hopefully someone can help.
The car is an 86 GT, which isn't a year the kit was designed for (87-93). I was told by a number of people it would work as long as I got new struts. The problem I am having is connecting the master cylinder to the proportioning valve. The instuctions say to use the existing connectors, but mine don't fit. I have no problem with getting new connectors, but no one can tell me the correct size and type. Anyone know what size/type they are? Should be the same as a 93 Cobra R or a 94-95 Cobra. I called the FRPP tech line and the guy told me they were Inverted Flare fittings, but they don't appear to be (unless I am missing something). He also told me to just take the master cylinder to an auto parts store and match it up, but the larger of the two fittings seems to have an odd (metric?) threading. The Ford dealer doesn't carry the part and couldn't give me a spec. Now I'm stuck with upgraded brakes I can't connect! Thought his would be the easy part. Anyone have any suggestions?

I am almost in the exact same boat as you right now. I have a 93 though and I didn't even get a proportioning valve. The one I got was from a 95 V6, and the fittings all require bubble-flares. I was told by maximum motorsports tech support to reuse the stock prop valve (with the plug) and use a 3-2 conversion from either them or matt90 GT to repipe the rear line.
I'm just waiting to see if the plug fits... supposedly they recalled a bad batch a year ago and have yet to get to start making them again.
Good luck man.

So you are waiting to see if the plug fits in your stock proportioning valve?
This is not the part I thought I would have problems with. Good luck on yours too. If I find out any more info, I'll let you know.

Yeah add me to your friends list if there is one or something.
I'm in the same exact boat... LOL and my next step is a supercharger also I think.
I didn't think this would be the biggest PITA either, let me know.

I spoke to the "expert" on this kit at FRPP today. Sounds like there may be an issue with the master cylinder I got. He is going to pull one from inventory tomorrow and look at the fittings. He is supposed to call me back by Friday. More to come....
good luck, i have no suggestions, i have the luxury of a top notch machine and tool shop at work at my disposal so i'd personally cad up a fitting and have these guys make it... sorry i'm no help in specifics. hope it all is worth it in the end

Got what I needed today. Found a local brake shop (ABS Power Brakes in Orange, CA) and they had the adapters I needed. The fittings were bubble flare fittings and at least one of the two was a metric thread. The guy didn't know the exact size, he just tried adapters till he found one that fit. (I had the MC with me) Should be able to finish my brakes with weekend!
