1. yes that short block should be ok, as long as its built right, but would recommend finding good race engine builder locally
its the small details that make or break a good engine or great engine.
get the forged pistons
get the ARP bolts
get the ARP studs and TFS girdle upgrade
get them to add a Windage tray

2.spacer part number
http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku

3.bracket for a/c and power steering ( had to grind out one hole to make work "made in Tiawan" )
http://store.summitracing.com/partde...+115&autoview=

4.You will need special 5.8L intake, edlebrock and triclflow make one

5. Hood clearance depends on what intake you use. Figure on at least a 2.5-3", but I had to use a 4"
to clear mine.

6. 24's will be enough but just barely, 36's might be better
expect to have to get a professional dyno tune.

7. BBK shorty swap headers are cheap and fit nice but are a bit restrictive.

8. You will also need a distributor for a 351W, they have a longer shaft.

9. Also, use an ARP oil pump drive shaft.

10. Ford Racing swap pan
http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku
took some persuading to make fit right, poor quality but worked with little time and effort

11. Drop mounts to lower engine 3/4" - I didnt use them, really tight fit under there
http://www.latemodelrestoration.com/...0%201&comp=LRS

There is a good bit of work involved and the engine is a MUCH
tighter fit in the engine bay, but I still think long term the swap is worth it.
Specially if you want to add some boost or nitrous later

My short block is pretty much what he is offering.

Ask him about the balance though, you are supposed to balance the engine
with the flywheel and balancer it is going to use.

i knew you would chime in on this subject sooner or later man.

would he really need the windage tray?the arp stuff is a good idea. i cant remember if the 351w came in 4 bolt mains? did it? and would the roller one be a 4 bolt main since it was a truck motor then would he really need the main girdle?

sorry for so many questions man.. but i got some money saved up and was gonna do a 331 stroker.. but i am kinda thinking about leaning more towards the roller 351w swap now.... i think you got me hooked on the swap seeing all the good luck you had and the good numbers you made.. with a kinda of mildly built motor.

Yes, windage trays are cheap hp.

Should you pull your engine to add one? no way
Should you add one to a new engine? you bet.

they keep all the air being pumped up down on the back side of
the pistons from slopping the oil in the pan around.

remember at 6,000 rpm your pistons are going up and down 100 times a second.
and there is air on the back side of them too.

Ok, ill get the pistons and connecting rod bolts, but i dont think im going to get the TFS Main Stud Girdle w/ ARP Main Bolts. Its just a little too much.

Ok thanks alot for the info, its a great help. What does a good dyno tune usually cost, and just on a guess do you think the the 351 with the forged pistons, a good performance cam, underdrive pulleys, cold air intake, 75mm maf, 75mm throttle body, then a good Edelbrock intake, the gt-40 heads, 30lb injectors, a good set of headers and a good dyno could get me over 400rwhp and torque?

no

let you know what mine makes for rwhp this afternoon.
Need better heads. Canfield 195's or AFR 185's would be perfect.

expecting 360-370rwhp with my combo

475 is a perfect world "lab number", I'm figuring I have about 435-450hp in the car
that translate to 350-370rwhp, and I have better heads and intake than you are planning on using

I'm also going to throw a 150 wet shot on there for close to 500rwhp though.........

Darn lol, if i could get better heads i would, but im planning on get the gt's from a scrap yard, what kind of numbers do you think i could be looking at. Also are then any other mods that could get me up to 400, besides now and chargers.

Whats a good dyno tune usually run?

stock gt-40's wont get you 400 hp at the wheels.. maybe the flywheel.. another route you could look at on heads is getting the gt-40's ported by thumper, then they will outflow afr 165's.

150 shot of nitrous

good tune runs about $500+

hmmm, not going to make much more power than a 302 with those heads, but it will
have more torque down low.

Probably high 300's at the fly wheel and low 300's rwhp with those heads.

If you really want to see an improvement try and save up for some decent aluminum heads, maybe TwistedWedge

With the Twisted Wedge Heads, then what do u think i could put down. Also you said this when your first posted in my thread.

Ask him about the balance though, you are supposed to balance the engine
with the flywheel and balancer it is going to use.

He said i need to get the fly wheel, so i guess i would need to get it balanced then, what would that cost?

Ok, i just looked at the Twisted Wedges Heads and i think i can maybe stay on budget still with them. Will the 5.0 ones fit on the 351 or do they make 351 ones?
