Default head (engine) question

I want to get some higher flowing heads for my 91GT and this what Im considering to save some money (I dont have much). Instead of buyin some new trick flows or somethin like that I was thinkin of buyin some cheap stock heads off a 5.0 and then taking them to a reliable and reccomended machine shop to get them polished and ported and rebuilt.

I was going to do the same for the intake. What do ya think? Will I still get some good additional ponies from modifying the stock equipment? I'm also adding a different cam, throttlebody, injectors and fuel pump.

Last Q. For a good shop what is a fair price for polishing and porting a pair of heads? Intake?

Thanks

You can call AERO HEAD Racing Components in Indianapolis,IN. @(317)862-0223.
They sell stock heads that are basically turned into GT-40 setup assembled for $399.00 per pair. Plus you can have them CNC the ports for an additional $300.00.
For stock heads modified, thats a great price. It would cost you more to take them to the shop and have them done.

P.S You can see the ad in the back of MM&FF,just look around for it.

$699.00 for cnc ported stock heads is a really good price and theyll should flow more than youll need, a standard head jobber is going to be around $400.00 for the complete jobber.

I dunno about the work they do on SBF heads but the work I saw them do on a Mopar head was top-notch all the way.....

how would a pair of the cnc port and polished stock heads compare to a set of afr heads? not even close?

About the same flow, should be real close to what AFR is stock - or any other aftermarket small cc head would flow

Side tracking from the heads, you were talking about porting your intake, rather than that look up the professional products typhoon upper and lower plenum if you look you can find the entire setup for under 300$ and it has dynoed better than the trickflow by small margins with a rpm range of like 1500 to 6500 rpm well worth its money, as for heads most ppl dont agree but i would look on ebay or some thing like that to find a pair that were already built and fixed, i got a set of stock e7's ported polished and a valve job for 325$ delivered to me. Before you go into anything like afr's id save up enough so you could spare no expense such as matching rpm performance on the heads cam and intake, and you gotta look what ever you get the afr heads for tack on the price of the roller rockers and what not on top of that "VERY EXPENSIVE PROCESS" good luck.

Don't skimp on the intake, like offnet said, even if you port your stock intake it may flow better but its still designed for low - mid rpm power - you need a shorter runner design to support higher rpm's to match those heads

why now buy a set low low mile alum heads..can be had around 650 or so and will just blow away a stock head..just as the intake buy a nice used one and you can gasket match it yourself....intakes don't wear out ya know..how this helps
