Default cobra intake

I always hear about GT40 intakes but rarely about cobra intakes? What are the differences and what size throttle body would you recommend to go with either one?

i belive gt40 intakes are alot more common, but from what ive heard they flow similar. your TB size really depends on your other mods

GT40 vs. Cobra vs. Explorer

Here's a pic of my new Explorer Intake (cleaned and painted.) IMHO, the Explorer intake is better. Flows better than the Cobra Intake and even outflows the GT40 intake in certain RPM ranges. And the Explorer intake is generally cheaper.

I agree with you samseed but I think the only major adventage of the gt40 is because the runners are separete from each other it cools faster I could be wrong

The GT40 will keep air temps down a little, but I've read about it giving a much broader tq curve on boosted motors.....

THAT was EXACTLY what I was lookin fer mang! Where do you get those cool toys?

thanks agian. So by judging by the chart I got a pretty descent deal on the cobra upper and lower for $200? At the moment I I am just getting the stuff together for the intake. I would like to do a cam and heads as well as exhaust when I have some cash and I am currently just wanting to put on a CAI, MAF and a bigger TB. Any help on what size or where to find these would be greatly appreciated.

$200 is an okay deal. About average. I just purchased a complete turnkey 1996 Explorer engine for $350 at a junkyard. I stripped it down and cleaned up the heads and intake. Then I bought a Steeda #19 camshaft to complete the setup.

I guess I'd have to see your complete setup as well as how much you plan to mod it before suggesting sizes for your MAF / TB. Maybe a 65 - 70 depending on what else you plan on doing. If you get up to the 300+ HP range in the near future you'll wanna start looking at 24lb+ injectors as well and a fuel pump to go with it.

As far as where to find them, summitracing.com and jegs.com seem to be popular places. Can also check out used ones at the classifieds section here or at corral.net.
