Car dies when I'm driving?
I drive an 89 GT and everytime I take it out I have too jump it. I first thought it was the battery because when I'd turn my car off I would hit the power locks and everything would shut down, I would get nothing when I would go to turn it over but it would jump just fine. I'ts happened 2x now when I'm driving it would just die, and also 2x's when I would shift from drive to reverse, neutral to reverse.....so on. It's kind of Dangerous because my Girl has to drive it from the bar when i get too brewed up. Any Idea WTF is going on !!!!! any help is appreciated.

RE: Car dies when I'm driving?
It has no power when you try to restart it? and it dies while driving? If thats the case, its the alt. But if it just dies when you turn it off and has no power to restart, then its the voltage regulator. The alternator should kep the car running. even if the batt is dead.

Load test the battery and alternator, you should produce 13-14volts with the car running, then disconnect the battery and see if the alternator is able to run the car... if it dies, then its the alternator. Reconnect the battery and start, if it doesn't start it's the voltage regulator. Have you checked/cleaned grounds and connections, on starter, soleniod, battery, alternator, grounds? GL

RE: Car dies when I'm driving?
If your vehicle needs to be jump started, and also dies while being driven, I have two guesses.
1) It is a problem with the alternator, and subsequently now the battery as well. (constant discharging to the point where the vehicle will not start will damage the battery)
2) A wiring issue. Since a charged battery is able to power the battery for intermittent alternator issues, it could be a disruption in the power supply coming from both the alternator and the battery.
