im not planning on boosting it right now, so i should just take them to the shop and ask them to mill the heads to make the chambers 58-60cc?

58cc chambers will raise your compression ratio to 9.5:1, 60cc will be between 9.4 and 9.3:1

but yes, higher compression ratio = more power... and its cheap too... the machine shop i go to charges $60 to mill a set of heads

get in touch with thumper at www.thumperoforangepark.com and talk to him about getting a set of GT-40 heads ported and polished. send him the lower with the heads and he will port match it. Grab a TFS1 cam and finish your exhaust. get an adjustable fuel pressure regulator and then it would be a good idea to look into a dyno tune

but 300rwhp... here you come

i dont have much money right now, so im just gonna get the heads and intake and make sure their in good running order and slap em on there.. just to have a little more power than i have now.. hopefully

(how much of a gain should i expect, i know its not gonna be big, but will it be worth it?) how much should i get them milled in your opinion, since this is all im doing?

honestly.. I would say to finish your exhaust, maybe to a TB or some more intake stuff, and theeeen get the explorer heads/intake and get that TFS1 cam and save up, get the explorer stuff cleaned up, milled, and ported and then put it all on at once. i think you can do other things now other than the heads to get you the same amount of power increase that just the stock GT40 heads and intake would be. that and once you get all the little stuff done, and get to the point you want to put the H/C/I in, then you will use more of the potencial of the h/c/i. just my $.02

I personally would mill the explorer GT-40 heads .040" that SHOULD give you slightly higher then stock compression and offer a small boost in HP... but how much you will have is dependent on how good the condition of your motor is!

+1 on everything Adder has told you. i emailed thumper about it and this is what he emailed me back...

The GT's will really make good power, see the attached! I dont "Port Intakes" getting inside the runners is almost impossible, thus the "extrude" hone!! I can , if you wish, gasket match the intake to the heads/ the interface between the upper and lower. This allows a smooth transition from one to the other!! Normally this is a 125.00 charge, however if you want me to do them with the heads.. I'll do it for 75.00!! ( plus a few bucks for shipping..) cool??

You can use your credit card thru paypal or send a money order with your heads, the usual turnaround is 7-10 days. Porting the GT40s, Performance Valve job, cleaned and maged for cracks/ surfaced flat, assembled with dual performance springs, moly retainers and keepers, bolt on ready will be 695.00 + a little shipping... where are you??

Let me know... cool??

Thanks

Mike

these are what he attached...

(Example of Ported vs buying)

Dont look at the ETs or the mph... just the increase in performance before and after, If the Edelbrocks or Trick flows dont seem to be making the performance you wanted.... port work "could" be the answer !! GT40s... and thinking of up grading and spending 1000.00 + in new heads?? Port work !! Those E7s suck!! Port work!!

Check around, see what the new heads are costing AND all the add'l "stuff" to make those heads work ( push rods, headers ect...). Maybe the only thing you need is to have the existing heads Ported and Polished to knock off that 3 or 4 tenths !! or get that extra 30-50 RWHP !! ( HP numbers are heads only and may vary, more mods will equal more HP, the higher the quality of the Ports, less the improvements )

ET's and MPH supplied by customers.. IF no MPH shown, customer didnt provide!

Porting Heads Shipping

1. To ship heads, wrap them in a plastic bag to keep oil from leaking out.
2. Cut up a card board box and then using the cardboard just wrap the heads as if they were Christmas packages using a strong tape.
3. Ship thru : UPS, or the US Postal service ect
4. E7s weigh approx 50 lbs each. GT40s weight approx 55 lbs , Most Alum heads are 35 lbs each as example!
5. UPS.COM can show shipping to my zip code : 32065

All port work will be on an individual basis. and est will be given befor you ship the heads to give you an idea of cost!! However, untill the heads are inspected, there can be no EXACT est. w/o seeing the heads.
