RE: My Megasquirt and I....
BUMP/UPDATE!!!!
Well, i have had the Megasquirt installed and runnig in the car for 2 weeks now. All is going well for now. I have run into a few small snags, but its usually when i dont have my laptop hooked up.... figures.
My complete setup consists of the DIYautotune.com MS2 v3 kit $250,
Megastim kit $48 (used to test the megasquirt while building it)
approximately 180' of 22 ga wire $15
2 female "crimp on" DB-37 connectors $20 (www.computercablestore.com)
www.megaefi.com adapter (unknown cost)
straight through DB9 male to femal cable $10
AEM 6 in 1 gauge type wideband $280 www.promustangperformance.com (I've had a wideband for a long time)
Laptop, capable of booting windows95 or better $125... Check Craigslist for good deals. I also have 5 laptops sitting here if anyone is interested in buying one!
Thats really all I can think of for now. You DO NOT need to modify your stock wire harness to run the megasquirt. The www.megaefi.com adapter will hook directly into your stock harness where you ECM normally connects in. That makes the MS a very low-impact installation. I could literally go out to my car, unplug the adapter and plug my stock computer back into the car, in a matter of minutes!
If anyone else is interested in doing a megasquirt project, i would be happy to help you get setup with an MS2 kit and get everything set right for your car. I can even set you up with a "Base Tune"! The base tune will be little more than good enough to start the car with... Everything else is up to you. So read through the megamanual and also this link here. http://www.megamanual.com/ms2/tune.htm
The MS is very addictive. I literally walk out the house every morning with my laptop in my hand so I can plug it in as soon as I get into my car!
I datalog EVERY trip I make in my car and I view them all when I get home... make small changes and load those changes into the megasquirt before my next drive. I never save over files, and EVERYTHING has been saved in my computer. I could go back right now and set my car to the way it was after the first day of tuning. SAVE EVERYTHING... some changes are good, others are not!

RE: My Megasquirt and I....
Just to clarify for those who seem a little fuzzy - Megasquirt is a very friendly, extremely flexible & programmable fuel injection control system and has been around for several years but does require a bit of technical aptitude to assemble and install. It started as just an idea and a parts list, but has really grown into a lot more. There are now places that offer individual components to complete ready to use kits, wiring harnesses, etc.
The basic idea is that it uses a MAP sensor to measure the air and triggers the injectors according to a pre-programmed fuel map. The newer MS units offer a lot more steps, but even the early ones were 8x8.
I first found out about MS several years ago when I was playing with an MX-6. That car (twin to Ford Probe) used a very restrictive air meter and responded well to converting to MS. Thereare guys on the Probetalk message board that will build, install, and program the whole thing for you.
And the two best things are the cost and the flexibility. It's cheap and will work on nearly any engine. I've heard of them being used on motorcycles & lawn mowers!

so what are u saayin here... u can hook us up with what we need an a base tune for a fee???? or are u just sayin u will guide us thru it....
as u may now im doin a h/c/i and rite now my only opinion is a dyno tuner that uses SCT... if i could get a stand alone tuner and understand how to tune it i could just play for dyno runs and it would be a lot cheaper and i coudl retune when i add on to the car.... im very interested... but i was tryin to understand some of these earlier when u first told us able it and i was at a loss....
