Cleaning Clogged EGR Port

Cleaning Clogged EGR Port
Hello Everyone,
I am new to this forum, and I want to say that I think it's pretty cool.
I have a 1989 GT. It's had an intermittent "Check Engine" light for the past few weeks. Since the light hasn't been steady, I continue to drive the car, but I've noticed that my fuel economy has gone way down.
I was able to put a scanner on my car recently, and all types of codes were displayed. A Ford tech that I questioned about this suggested that many if not all of these codes could possibly be traced back to a clogged EGR port. He told me that I should get a book to learn how to fix the problem. Well, I bought a Haynes manual, but I haven't seen anything specific on cleaning the EGP port.
Could someone please provide some assistance to me to fix this problem?
I would really like to have a detailed procedure on how to do this. If the procedure can't be provided in this forum, then please recommend another book I could read to fix it.
Thank you for your time.
Kenny

Suggestion:
Since you have some codes logged, clear them from memory (disconnect battery for 5-min.), do a couple of test drives until you get the CEL blink/or stay on, rerun the self-test (you don't need a scanner, a paper clip will do....http://www.troublecodes.net/Ford/ ), and work based on the codes logged then.
