Pingin' like a bitch
I have a 95 GT with just over 100,000 miles on it. I live in Oklahoma (Hot air) and run 89 octane with timing set @10/BTDC. If I give it over 1/4 throttle, it pings so bad you think it's going to blow up. I am running Champion plugs, can't remember which number, but it's the one the manual calls for. Can I go to a hotter or cooler plug?
Is there a sensor that controls when the computer kicks back the timing? if so, when it fails, wouldn't the check engine light come on? I know I can start using 93 octane, and it may help, but wih gas prices so ridiculous, I'd rather not have to do that. Not only that, but other people who drive these cars don't do that.
Thanks

RE: Pingin' like a bitch
There is no knock sensor on your mustang. I too have a 95 GT, and when I first got it, it was pinging, too. The previous owner was running low octane gas, and when I switched t 92, ir helped. I would run 92 with a bit of booster at first. I also had my fuel system cleaned up, and that helped as well.
