oil coming out of the gaskets on the 302
before i was going to put the oil pan on my 302, i decided to lubricate all of the parts in the engine. the engine is on a stand up side down and after i began lubricating all the parts and put the oil pan on i flipped the engine right side up and i seen oil coming out of the head gaskets and intake is this because its a brand new engine and hasn't been ran so the rings on the pistons haven't seated so it let oil through. are my head gaskets and intake gaskets ruined since oil got to them and oil was leaking out of them? will the oil in the gaskets burn off when i start the engine? please any help would be great, thanks kevin

Why would you do that? If you used enough oil anf assembly lube putting the engine together, or if you bought the long block new, then extra oil wasn't necessary. I'm guessing she's going to smoke blue a while after initial start up until those intake gaskets dry up.

When you rebuild an engine, you're supposed to lubricate the parts as you put them in, not after it's all together. Once it's all put together and the oil pan is on and filled with oil, get an oil pump primer and prime it with a drill for about 30 seconds to get oil through the whole engine, and you can also check the oil pressure and check for leaks. Chances are oil leaked past the rings because they haven't sealed against the cylinder walls yet. If the gaskets were soaked through, I'd replace them. For future reference, never turn the engine upside down with oil in it.

something about what you're saying just don't quite make sense to me. how are the head gaskets going to leak oil? if they were properly torqued down, then there's no way they should be leaking oil. same with the intake gaskets unless the ones at the ends were squeezed out when you torqued down the intake. and since the gaskets were made of materials designed to be in contact with hot motor oil, I don't see where this would hurt them either.
