Default Price of heater core repair?

Just wondering what you guys have paid to have your heater cores repaired. My local shop quoted me $600. Is that a good deal, or should I keep looking?

I got quoted anywhere from $450-$700 when I called a bunch of shops a few months ago.

Mine is still bypassed and hopefully a guy I know is going to do it for alot cheaper.

I would say do it yourself, it is time consuming, but can be done. Save some money for another mod.

Thanks, PJB. I'm gonna make some calls tomorrow and see. I just wanted to get an idea of what a normal rate was, beforehand. Mine's bypassed too, and I'm getting sick of having no heat. I'd much rather spend the $600 or whatever on rims, but they won't really keep me warm.

I'd like to, I just don't have the time these days. And honestly, I don't feel like doing it! I'd rather pay someone else.

you can do it about 6 hours

not difficult, just very time consuming, i've seen it quoted at $1000

i did one once and hope to never have to again. on the bright side, you will have a very clean dash when your done if you clean it all as you go.

Sucks, all that labor to put in a $20 part.....I would do it yourself too. Just think of all the time you have to work to earn that money....less time to fix it yourself mostlikely. Also, I wouldn't want someone else taking my dash apart. It took me about 4 to 5 hours and wasn't bad, just a lot of screws and bolts.

that was by far the most miserable job i've ever had to do on a car. that's why i'm ordered a restrictor valve for mine; hope to make this heater core last as long as i can.
