looking for stang to buy
hello, i'm completely new to mustangs, and dont know too much about them. I wanted to get some preliminary info so i can start looking for one to buy. i am leaning toward the 5.0's a little bit already. i want to make sure that there is no shortage of aftermarket parts for them though. what are the pro's and con's of the 5.0's, foxbody? Is there a better year, style, engine size? 5.0? 4.6? 5.4? 351W. Is it true that the foxbody's were right around 3000lbs. from the factory?
For the foxbody's if the car came with a V6 factory, is it easy to swap to the 5.0? Is there any reason to go to a 351 instead of 5.0?
I basically want a fun daily driver, with good gas mileage, mid 20's. i'm thinking i would like to end up with about 350hp at the flywheel. what do you think?

I think my '92 weighs 3200 pounds.
Some older Fox bodies ('79-'86) came with a v6 and alot ('79-'93)came with a 2.3 I4. Conversions are possible and many have been done but its just easier to buy a car that already has a V8. Youll need a V8 K member, V8 wiring harness, V8 rearend, V8 suspension and more for a conversion. To me its not worth doing.
If youre worried about gas mileage dont get a 5.0. No way are you going to get 20 mpg and have 350 hp. Mine has nowhere near 350 hp and it gets 14 mpg.
There is definately no shortage of aftermarket parts for 5.0's. You can find just about anything for them in any price range. Blowers, heads, cams, headers, intakes, etc. Theres millions of aftermarket parts.
Notchbacks (have a trunk) are the most preferred body style of Fox bodies. Theyre lighter and look the best. GT's are slightly heavier due to the body kit and they look a little dated because of the body kit.

it is some what easy to do a swap i know there is some guys on here that have gotten v4 and done the swap to a 5.0 or 351w i think the reason people do the 351w swap is because the 351w is a stonger motor and about the gas mileage stangs arent that great i get like 13/15 mpg during the week and like 5mpg on the weekend

unfortunately i dotn have enough mustang knowledge to know why 350hp and 20mpg is not possible. is the tranny or rear end have really high gears? i figured it would be a piece of cake with the fuel injection. are you running a carb?
is the factory automatics any good? 4 speed?

umm the rear end gears vary, mine is an AOD [auto] with 2.73's
which is not good at all haha
the AOD's arent that great..but rebuild em and they're pretty good
but the rear end gears depend on the letter on the door jam
whether you have 2.73's, 3.08's, 3.27's and im not sure if 3.73's were an option
but a 5.0 stock mayy get 20mpg on the freeway only..mine doesnt

Ive got fuel injection.
Ive also got an AOD. Stock theyre not the greatest but they can be built up for performance. +
To me a 2.3- 5.0 swap is a pain in the *** and not worthdoing to me.

well, you dont really need v8 suspension, the 4 cyl is actually bette then the v8, so dont post what you dont know fora fact. next 5.0s are awesome dont get me wrong but it all depends on what you want, i have a friend with a bone stock 99 gt with the pi motor, all he has is the trickflow intake midpipe, & catback & gears and hes running 13.20 all day. + those cars weigh more then foxs. i have a motor from a 99 gt sitting in my shed im thinking about maybe dropping in my car. so it all depends on what you want. 5.0s are easier to get more hp out of, but im nto shooting for 400+ hp, im just shooting for 300rwhp.
