Default 87 fox and crownvic

I have a set of 3.55 gears out of a police crownvic and plan on putting them in my 87 Fox butt I'm not sure if it will work. Does anyone know?

Absolutely. The 8.8 is used all over Ford's lineup and should be in that CV. Don't use the carrier, as itmay bean open diff. I am not 100% sure if all police units got the trac lock. It's easy enough to tell when you get the cover off. Of course, there is the whole thing about gear mesh and wear patterns that may create issues after the install, but for a set of cheap/free gears, it is worth a shot.

thanks. Half of the things you were talking about was greek to me like gear mesh. I,ve never installed gears before but my friend said to buy instalation kit. Do you think the problems you was talking about is possible after install kit.

Yes they are, you need a few special tools to do a gear install correctly. a dial indicator and some gear lash compound. it's not hard.. but it also isnt easy. And also. 99% of the crown vic cop cars had trac-locks.

did you get the tag off of the crown vic rear diff cover, it'll tell ya if it had the trak loc... should of. but yes a few specialty tools are needed, bearing press/puller, backlash guage, torque wrenches, calipers, etc. plus your basic wrenched, sockets, drain pans, cleaner and stuff...good luck hope it works out well
