my stangs got the shakes
hey fellas,
i've got an '89 gt 5.0 with about 417 rwhp, and the last couple of days i've got a wicked vibration throughout the car. it's mainly at idle. i checked the motor mounts, and the tailshaft mount, and all of those are fine. so now i'm kinda stumped. anybody got any ideas?

Spike306, are you still running the stock clutch fan? I have a buddy that had his go out and caused a nasty vibration. Changed it and all the problems went away. Just and idea to check.

My motor mouns looked perfectly fine on my old engine. When I took it out to swap in the stroker they pretty much broke in half... they looked fine though. What kind of mounts are on there? If you're still running stock ones you should look into the energy suspenspension polyurethene ones. I think you can get all 3 mounts for $110 from Summit. Check your balancer too. Is it only at idle? I have a friend who was getting vibrations from an exhaust leak on that connecting pipe between the 2 heads in a 95 5.0. Make sure you don't have any exhaust leaks also.

Usually when the harmonic damper go bad the vibration gets worse as the rpms increase. But its woth a check. If it only happens at idle it can only be a few things; flywheel, dampener, fan, or an internal unbalance in the reciprocating assembly.

stang574.... you mean vibration damper.... harmonic balancer is the nickname for it.it mounts on the end of your crankshaft, and helps minimize the vibration cause by the irregular motion of the crankshaft.
