u got that right brother, my dad has a 69 torino 390 4 speed with a 3:50 rear and a very mild cam and that thing churps all the gears and throws ur head back like no other efi car has done
ORIGINAL: bobbyward

well it was a factory 383 hp 4spd car but when i did it in the old days it was just a hot rod, todays word "clone" the 440 hp-4spd-and dana came from a couple donar cars(70 rt /st challengers),at one time i had 60 ebodyparts cars, if i had only know what they would be worth today i would be rich !one of thert's was a factory 440 6pk with a 4:10 dana (trac pak car) and if you watch barrettjackson you will know what i mean for $$'s the car was a blast but kids came along and it has been resting in the waiting to get put back together, its getting close on the list of to do things, my youngest is 16 so time is getting close for fun again .........................
i can almost smell the rubber burnin, nothing can replace a big block 4 spd car for fun, yeah the newer injected stuff is cool but those cars were just plan brutal !

see what those cars bring at barrett jackson ?
someone must love there mopars too , i grew up with fords/mopars
street racing was life, big block mopars ruled here, not to say there
were fast cars of each brand but locally there were some gtx's and r/runners with 383/440 that were unbeatable ! then not to mention the killer 340 4spd darts..........................those things would kick *** and take numbers too ! but that was in the mid 70's too when gas was cheap and you were not kool without 3-2's or 2X4's, even some ole grannie cars had multi carb set ups , gas was 30 some cents a gallon and you could go to the station and buy 101 octane with lead .....................

I'd say screw the blown motor approach, throw a fuel injected, push rod big block.
If you'd want to go that route a chevy would probably be best.

I'm saying that a chevy big block weighs 30% less than a ford and makes 30% more power. Why do you hate chevy so much? They make one hell of a motor.

I raced a '70 for 20+ years.
I wound up running a 440/727/8.75 combination that would 10.70's on a real mild tune, all throttle.
There is nothing in the world that is quite like the sound of shifting at around 6400RPM with a big block. 6600 thru the lights.
I sold 9/01 when a guy offered me an unbelieveable amount of money for it. He had seen it run several times.
The last race I ran it in it won the event.
Strange, the new owner ran it 2-3 times, then it just disappered.......

your right about that, my 67 gtx with a 440 4spd and 457's
jumped up to 7500 rpms in a flash, those are wicked motors
like to usually keep it under 6500 and it was just a 70 hp balanced motor with the bracket racer cam ! they feared no rpm's
now back to the 5800 rpm sb just doesn't seem right ?
if i could turn back time it would be the 70's for sure !
