Default Engine Temperature?

I was just wondering if anyone else's engine takes a while to warm up b/c mine sure does. Ususally takes about 10 miles and it might be warmed up to 190, which id say the thermostat is. Thanks for the help

As long as its not running hotI wouldn't really worry. If I recall correctly most of my cars do the same.

my 91 takes a good bit to warm up. but its just like a old ford truck. if you live in a cold area you could block off half of the rad to heat it up faster

My 93 takes a while to get up to temp, I dont know about 10 miles of driving though. I usually let it run for 5 minutes before I go and usually the needle is just starting to move. I just go easy on it until I get up to normal temp which takes about 5 mintues of driving.

thermostat could be stuck open too

but i think its just that the temp guages on those old engines arent very accurate

I think the thermostat is fine, I have and aftermarket temp gauge, the hood openeing are cut out. I try to start my car be4fore i leave usually, maybe i should let it warm up a lil more though, ist nothing bad tho, i did read something on fordfuelinjection.com that said your car isnt properly warmed up until 185 degrees, and thermostats lower than that can hurt your engine.

you're thermostat is fine! I've had 5 fox body 5.0's and it took all of them about 10-15 mins.to warm up.

it's a good sign because if no thermostat... overheat! older cars need some time to get movin inthe morning's...
