ignition coil question
i am taking a motor out of a 1990 mustang gt and converting to carburetion. i want to use a msd blaster coil. i can get on realtively cheap but it does not have the ballast resistor. will i need one???
To my knowledge you will unless you get a MSD or some type or ignition system, not sure since you are going to carb. I know you do with the stock stang computer and ignition parts.
Most distributors for the 85' were for FI motors. So they will not work with carbs. I found this one though. This one may work. But, I dont know for sure. Looks like it uses a pick up that does not work off of the FI computer.

I think balastresistors were usually used with set ups that used ignition modules.

I went and double checked. A ballast resistor is only needed if your ignition set up uses an ignition module. Which means it usually depends on which dizzy you are using. But you can remove the ignition module & ballast resistor on some types of set ups. Usually old ones that use a points dizzy with a ignition module thrown in the mix.
