Default Thinking about buying a 1982 GT

I found a 1982 Gt For sale, I read on hear that this is the lightest year made is that true ? Is it going to be hard to find parts for this car or will most parts interchange? I was thinking about gutting the interior, puting a cage in it and some frame conecters. Is there any known problems with this year, and would it make a good drag car ?

Thanks for the help.

Its a Fox body so theres plenty of parts available. Most stuff interchanges. The only big differences in the body are the front bumper/grille piece and the taillights. Subframe connectors fit '79-'93.
Youre gutting the interior so that doesnt matter but '79-'86 parts work for that.

Id swap the 7.5 rear end for a later 8.8 and since youre building it up theres no sense worrying about the underpowered v8 under the the hood (I dont think its a 302).

I recently bought an '82 GT and I'm happy with it too. Completely stripping the thing down to make an autocrosser. They have the 2-barrel carb 302 rated 160 hp 240 torque from the factory with a 7.5 rear with 3.08 gears. 4-speed tranny. Most parts from later foxes will fit the '82. To use any fox exhaust all you need is to swap to a double-hump tranny crossmember because it came stock with a single exhaust. I love the look of them too, only the 79 cobras and the 82 gt's look like it so it pretty unique
