3:73 gears
well i was going to put my gears in myself but i added up the tools i would need and the time (which i don't have) and decided to pay someone to do it instead. the local shop is going to charge me $314. they go in next friday. what kind of break in procedure should i do.

RE: 3:73 gears
when i installed my gears i bought a video on how to install them and it said nothing about break in. i did some burnouts 5 minutes after i put them in and that was two years ago, so i would'nt worry about it.

LOL that's funny. i'll probably wanna do tons of burnouts but my son will be with me when i pick it up. i was gonna do the install but in the end it's just plain easier for me to pay for it to be done.

yea, FRPP's gears come with a break in instruction sheet, recomend 500 miles of normal driving, but most people wait about 100' to break 'em loose, I waited maybe 150 miles before i really got on them... no problems here!

3:27. i'm kinda happy with the ratio but last year i put in an auburn limited slip someone gave me and it made the backlash sloppy. so i figured if i have to have that fixed might as well get a better gear.

The shop recommended 500 miles until I really got on them. Put that only laster about 1000ft down the road and than I have been beating on them ever since. The shop did a sh*tty job installing them so they whined so I cannot say if me not breaking them in caused them to whine or not lol
I heard from a few reputable people that gears do not require a break in..... I guess its up to you.

i'll break mine in gentlyi'm worried about having someone do the install. i know they are a shop and all but i just worry about that stuff. i read the instructions that came with my limited slip and they say to use the factory backlash as a reference point. if he does that then they will be sloppy loose because the backlash right now is that way since i didn't do any adjustment when i put thelimited slipin. i want to say like a reminder to them but don't want to seem like a pain in the butt customer.

RE: 3:73 gears
dude, i would definitely break in those gears!? my friend got 4.10s in his supercharged 5.4L gmc c-1500...no joke, he blew em within 3 days...so be advised, it has happened, but i guess it just all depends on the ride and the driver lol
