Default Cam Questions

Okay i just found out my moms friend has a cam he will give or sell to me. Im not sure of the specifics yet but i will post them tomorrow when i find out. My question is will upgrading to 1.7 rockers be as beneficial as a new cam? I know it depends on the cam specs but i just want to know in general. Also, if you install a new cam, do you have to get a new computer, or can you just reset the stock computer?

It's always good to get a tune when you change your a/f ratio....

Also, a cam in a stock motor won't be HUGE, but if you combine it with 1.7 rocker rollers, you will feel the difference.

Cam lets more air in, 1.7 rockers use it.

WARNING: NO EXPERIENCE WITH 5.0's

But I hear that the E-303 is a pretty decent grind for a mildly modified engine. If you get a good deal, take it, you can always put heads on later.

Yes, the e303 cam is a good "street legal" cam, meaning that it will not cause you to fail the emissions. the specs on the E303 are: Duration: 220°/220° @ .050' Lift: .498'/.498' and it retails for $165

considering the stock lift is only .442", the .498" lift combined with the 1.7 rockers should make a noticable difference. just make sure to check the piston to valve clearance so you don't run into a problem. if in doubt, use the 1.6 rockers and you should be OK.

roundy.. I agree that cam makes it close with 1.7's as that lift is based on a 1.6 rocker...

With the 1.7 rockers that cam will spec in at .529" lift. It'll be close but i think it works.Check it to make sure though.
