acutally believe it or not on mild applications or a small block 302 the 165s outflowed the 185's so with ur setup unless u plan on runnin a lot of nos or f/i then 165's would be perfect

do you know what comp. ratio your trw pistons spec. out at. i would put the 165's on unless your going boosted later.if you plan on pumping 10 psi in it go with the 185's .

My compression is 10:1. Dont think I will ever go boosted.

if your mods are what is listed and you aren't going to add anything I would go 165 due to they are better in keeping velocity up and will have great throttle response and very good mid range power

165's

velocity is more important than flow , if you have high flow but it's going too slow, you'll slow down

if you go 185, you'll be one of those guys at the track calling guys w/ stock motors going low 13's liars cuz thats all they can do.

165s would give me 80hp over the heads I have now? I have the same size valves than the 165s. I know it is not all about valve size, but I did not know it would be that big of a change.

see if you would have installed some pro flow valves in those heads..the valves have the stem cut back for more flow some times up 15%...the 165 are cnc cut and each chamber is about 1cc different unlike you heads also the ports are bigger and smoother

its all about port shape and volume. 165's will have more velocity.stock e7te heads have very low exhaust flow. you could port stock heads until your fingers bleed and still not flow the out of the box numbers of afr 165's
