t-5 trouble
i ordered a rebuild kit for my trans and when i got it in the synchros were all brass i was told that only my 5th gear has a brass synchro. all the rest of the stuff (bearing, shims, etc) are right will it be ok to put these brass synchros in or will they hurt it?

RE: t-5 trouble
you have the non world class t-5, which is weaker and harder to rebuild... personaly i would look for a worl class t-5 and rebuild that... my knowledge of rebuilding a t-5 stops with the world class i no very little about the non WC....all the syncros are different sizes and 1-4 does have a material in the middle (helps slow the gears down faster) but they are all brass, they are this way because you want the blocker ring to wear not the other parts... so yes your syncros you have are normal (atleast from a WC stand point) and you should deal with www.ddperformance.com they're rebuild kit is 210 ish shipped but they are very knowledgable, kinda, and have great customer service.... i picked up a steel bearing retainer from them (live 30 min. away) and when i got home i relized they gave me the wrong part, so i called them and the dropped the new part off and picked up the old one free of charge... they are the only people i get parts for a t-5 from great quality parts no problems with any of the trannys i built yet

RE: t-5 trouble
WC did NOT have steel blocker rings they are brass with carbon fiber linnings.... and the WC wasn't made till 86... so if you pulled it out of an 85 then it wasn't the original tranny in it... i uses brass rings on all the trannys i build for people and i haven't had anyone call and tell me that they are having problems.....
was there breaings under the gears on the main shaft??? and if it does have steel rings then it has been rebuilt b4... steel rings are a bad idea anyway, since the gears are also steel the steel rings will cause the gears to wear as well, thats why they where made from brass
