Pinging knocking and abrely starts
I go to start my car and i have to hold the ignition over for a minute, when it starts it just wants to die and the throttle is barely responsive. Even if I get it going it runs horribly and pings/knocks what could be my problem? timing was never touched, i have a new fuel pump and pressure regulator in there...

you might just be running lean, what is the fuel pressure set at? check your timing anyway even if you didnt touch it. buy a new distributor cap and rotor for 10 bucks. check your plugs and replace if needed, check 02 sensors and replace if needed. this definately sounds as if the car is running lean though.

no it wont get clogged that fast, but if you havent changed it for a prolonged period of time it wouldnt hurt either. it definately sounds like you are running lean for some reasons, it may be your injectors. did this problem start AFTER you installed the new pressure regulator and fuel pump? if so i would check those ASAP because it sounds like this is definately a fuel problem.
PS. get some lucas injector cleaner and dump that stuff in your fuel tank to clean your injectors. do the little stuff first...

In order to let the injector cleaner i have to run the car, which im not sure is such a good idea.. No check engine lights... The fuel pump and pressure regulator are aftermarket but have been used for months with no problems

ok the only thing that i can think of is if your engine is old enough, you may have a layer of carbon buildup in your combustion chambers. if this occurs, it can increase the compression which can lead to knocking.
sounds fishy though, i would check your fuel pump and injectors ANYWAY.
im pretty sure the fuel delivery is where the problem lies.
injectors/fuel pump/regulator
hope this helps
