Default Explorer swap

I'm talking to a guy who is parting out his 1997 explorer. he is still getting back to me or whether it is a 97.5 or earlier. If it is a 97.5 or earlier then what all do I need to take from the explorer engine to transfer to my mustang?

Also, the engine has 144,000 miles on it. The guy said he's owned the truck since brand new and only used syn oil in it. He's parting out the entire truck.

Thanks.

Grab the heads and intake. So you don't want the heads if they're P heads? If not send me a PM w/ how much that guy wants for them.

You will want to take the heads to a machine shop to have them cleaned up and decked (GT40's only).

I would just grab the whole motor... easier to pull and you can also sell the shortblock if you want.

I didnt want the heads if they were the P ones b/c then I would have to get different headers. I don't have any space for another engine til I get rid of the other three engines and trannys I have laying around. He said he would pull everything off I wanted. The guy said he would sell me the heads, upper/lower intake and TB for $300.00

So, I don't need to TB to do the swap?

Thanks.

I may be interested in the heads if they're P's and you don't want them, but it will depend on how much he wants for them (shipping to Dallas, 75287 alone will be $80).

The TB will have to be modded to work w/ your stang, so stick w/ your stocker for now--it will bolt right up.

Also, don't I have to drill a hole and cap off some other ones on the explorer intake?

On the lower you will. If it's 97.5 or earlier, there will be a bung that you just drill and tap. 97.5+ won't even have the bung there, + won't have any EGR provisions.

You may need to cap a line or 2...just depends how you run them and what systems you still have hooked up.
