Default What cam...

Okay, im going to start building a new engine as soon as i find a used block. ive already decided that im gonna buy a 302 and then bore it out to 306. And im going to run a carb instead of EFI. Ive settled on Edelbrock parts for most everything. Im going to use the performer rpm heads and manifold but i cant find an edelbrock cam to match the performer rpm stuff. so what cam should i consider using? it needs to have power in the 1,500-6,500 rpm range to match the heads and intake. any ideas?

Well, the FMS E-303 cam will keep you street legal, but if you want a little bigger, the B-303 cam should work well.

Your best bet is to call up CompCams, give them the info and ask for their opinion. They should be able to set you straight.

go to http://www.edelbrock.com/ and check it out man, I'm sure I've seen them advertise a package deal like the Holley Systemax which includes the heads, intake and cam all for one price and everything is designed to work together as a package.

Yeah ive been to the edelbrock site and thats where i got all my info from and so when i looked through all of their dealers, they only have the performer rpm cam for chevy, not ford, even though they advertise it for ford on the edelbrock site. so if there is an edelbrock performer rpm cam for ford, i cant find it.

yeah i would guess that they would make the a whole "power pakage" like they do for the chevy but i would stay away from the systemax pakage lots of people are having promblems with the head's i think the valve guides are gone after 12k miles and the e cam has more lift than the b cam but i think the b cam has a little bit more duration which will give you more of a top end "power band"

Just checked the site. Very strange that they don't list a cam. I did the same as you but went with the Performer package. However I am using a Crane Cam. Same spec's that Edelbrock called for. Call Edelbrock and see what they suggest. Also give Ford Racing a call. They'll have a pretty good handle on what your trying to do. Also the tech guys at Crane and comp Cams will help you.
PS> I'm running a .282/.498 Roller Cam. Good from 1000 to 6000 RPM.

I don't mean to insult your intelligence, but you are making sure to have bigger valve reliefs cut into the pistons so you don't run into a problem with piston to valve clearance with this cam and the larger valves on the Edelbrock heads, right???
