Default The final word on gear break in

Well every time a gears thread comes up it seems to be a huge question of how to break them in. 500 miles? 150? None? I needed to know, so I did a bit of research, and here it is:

Gears do not need to be broken in. That "500 easy miles" is merely a good idea to make sure that everything is going well and you don't hurt it more if it's not. This is coming from a mechanic, an install shop, and FRPP themselves

gears need to be treated gently upon first install... WHY?
Because if something is not seated properly it will quickly become apparent. I saw someone not properly seat a carrier bearing, and it caused the carrier to shift and strip the ring gear.... had the driver been going easy, the gears could have been saved

I got my 4.10's put in last week and the guy that did them told me to just drive it easy and keep it below 55 on my way home and after that it would be ok. The next day I beat on the car.

3. CLOSE YOUR EYES
4. SIDE STEP THE CLUTCH
5. OPEN YOUR EYES
HANG ON!

the reasont they say keep itbelow 55 is because backlash noise is most heard at 55... so u keep it under 55, u smash on it the next day, and ur to satisfied to care about the noise, thats y
