Default Should I Buy It?

I found a 1991 lx 5.0 coupe for sale in my town. I have not seen the condition of the car yet but the guy is claiming 56k original miles. The only reason I am hesitating though is the car is an automatic, but the price is so right it is only 4k OBO. I would just like to know if the car will still be reasonably fast and how hard it would be to swap to a 5spd.

it's pretty hard to do a swap, but that's a good price -- make sure to run carfax on it to make sure he didn't roll the odometer!

Do you think that the mustang would still go pretty good even in the automatic form?

Definetly, with the proper rear end gearing( 4.10's), a shift kit, or even a stall you can get those AOD's going. Theres always potential in any car, its just a matter of how much you wanna spend.

You can get a shift improvemnt kit, or a chip that should firm up the shifts. I'd buy it if I were you. That seems like a great deal if it really has only 56k on the odometer. Im not sure what the gearing on the 91's is. Is it 3.08 like the 94's. It'd do good like "stang" said.

From the factory most Mustangs are usually equipped with 2.73 rear gears. A specially ordered Mustang could be had with 3.08 gears and up to 3.27 gears for automatic transmission. So you probably got the 3.27 gears.
