i just bought an 88 gt like 6 monthes ago with 1800,000 and a brand new paint job. already replaced the gas tank, oil pump, motor mount, and i need a transmission. paid 6500for the carspent another grand since then. i should have a pretty sic car by summer....so its worth it to me. but dour best to find out everything u can about the motor and drivetrain before buying.

i dont think its the miles on the motor u should really worry about. As the saying goes "built ford tough." I'd look at if all the fluids are there, do a tune up once you buy it and check everything electrical. Chances are these cars were modifed so you should make sure a job wasn't done half-assed. My car gave me a lot of electrical problems when i bought it but its all fixed and running well.

There are alot of people who ask this, and every time I through my mileage (340,000 now)out there just as a proving point that these fords can go a long time. But then I have replanced the alt today, water pump (100,000 miles ago), fuel pump over the summer, and it needs motor mounts. BUt those are things that are expected with old cars. Overall if the car performs well, sounds good(No mysterious noises), and doesn't have rust ect. you should be fine

buy a 5.0 you like or feel comfortable with fixing up.
I got mine dead took a year of work to fix her up right
Maybe you dont want a restore project, but 5.0's are not cheap and extremely popular.
Average price $3500-$4000 hardtop, $5000-$7000 vert in good shape.

i bought my 88gt about a year and a half ago paid 2300, had 135 on the clock AOD was trashed, I've since rebuilt the AOD, just be careful on 5spd cars known for having the torque boxes wailed on, hard lauches at the strip, but just keep in mind for a fox 5.0 your look at 14 year old cars, or older, but look for a project, keep the 6 as a daily driver find a fox with no motor or trans or maybe a 4banger and do a swap that way you get what you want and you know the history...

the 302 can go for hundreds of thousands of miles...my old f250 ahd 300,000 on it and still going strong...if its been abused, well then thats another story. My father changed the oil in that truck every 300 miles and that engine was jsutl ike new...tranny wore out before the engine ever did
