Default 5.0 vs 4.6

im new to mustangs and cars in general and i was wondering a few things about this.

1. why did ford abandon the 5.0 and start the 4.6s

2. performace wise, stock for stock which is a better engine.

3. when they talk about liters in engines what are they refering to? the size but size of what?

Its ok... We wont hold it against you!

Because FORD is stupid! .... And because the 4.6 made better emissions.

5.0 made about the same power as the non-pi 4.6l but the 98+ 4.6 makes better power. HOWEVER the 5.0 is cheaper to modify and responds to mods better

The displacement of the motor. Imagine filling a cylinder with fluid. It will take 5 liters of fluid (or air) to fill the cylinders of the motor.

This link will describe it better than I can

its also important to mention that there is also variation w/in the4.9 and 4.6. there are sohc and dohc 4.6s, n/a 4 valve and supercharged 4 valve. there is quite a biteof variation through the years on 302s also. just a little heads up, all 4.9s werent created equal, same w/ 4.6

5.0's are much easier and cheaper to mod than 4.6's. Overall i'd say a 5.0 is better, cheaper, easier to work on, and ofcourse no replacement for displacement.
