RE: getting gears installed
i installed mine myself. It took about 4-5 hours. That is with me taking off the bearings on the old carrier to get to the shim size, and this was the first gear install i have ever done. Im sure that a professional shop with the right tools could do it in a couple hours

RE: getting gears installed
yes: Go ahead and buy a rebuild kit with new bearings, figure out some way to crush the collar, it takes a couple hundred pounds of pressure, 400 i think, and it is hard to get a cheater pipe on the ratchet becasue our cars are close to the ground. On mine we had to use a jack and jack up on the ratchet over and over again, it took forever, but it worked. Make sure you have the proper tools, the right preload and backlash are critical. Also, be very meticulous! You want your gears to last so make sure you get everything perfect, a couple of thousanths off and you may chew them up!

impact i had wasnt even strong enough. and if you change out the races. there a bitch to put in, ifi did it again i would of left the old bearings and races in, cuz they have to go in perfect if there even thousandths off nothing will set up right. and theres not any difference practically from 410s to 390s
